![“If you want a village, you need to be a villager”
A quote I saw recently that I can’t get out of my head.
We all want the benefits of a community - people to hang out with, to call on when you need a favour, to encourage you when you need it most.
But in reality, to be a part of a village requires sacrifice from the villagers. A lot of dying to your preference for what is best for the whole. Inconveniencing yourself for the sake of someone else. Doing something that you just don’t want to do because you care about the people you’re doing it with.
I’m also learning that there’s no perfect village, and I’m far from a perfect villager. But that’s part of the beauty of it - choosing to show up because you know that the insane blessing of belonging is worth the inevitable messiness of humanity.
